Heart Awareness Month – September 2026

This Heart Awareness Month, let’s put our health first. Small choices, moving more, eating nourishing foods, managing stress, avoiding tobacco and scheduling regular check-ups can help protect your heart. Know your numbers. Listen to your body. Encourage someone you love to care for their heart, too.
Dr Angela Murphy is a Specialist Physician with a special interest in endocrinology, diabetes, obesity and thyroid disorders, consulting at the East Rand Institute of Metabolic Medicine (ERIMM), Sunward Park Medical Centre, Boksburg.

World Obesity Day

World Obesity Day was established in 2015 as an annual campaign with the goal of stimulating and supporting practical actions that will help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reverse the global obesity crisis.

Each year we run a campaign based on a specific theme.  Although World Obesity Day is a point in time, our work continues throughout the year – recognising that different organisations and parts of the world focus their efforts at differing times.

We aim to increase awareness, encourage advocacy, improve policies, and share experiences. Our campaign reached over six million people in 2016,  another eight million in 2017, and over ten million in 2018. In 2019, World Obesity Day was marked for the last time on October 11, and the new World Obesity Day date of March 4 began in 2020. In 2021, we reached over six billion people and with your help, we can continue to grow this year on year.
