Women’s Month – August 2026

YOUR HEALTH. YOUR STRENGTH. YOUR STORY.
Every woman’s health journey is different. It changes through the years, shaped by life stages, hormones, health conditions and experiences that are uniquely her own. This Women’s Month, we celebrate the strength women show every day and recognise that caring for your health is part of that strength. Listen to your body. Ask the questions. Attend the check-up. Seek support when something does not feel right. Make your health a priority not an after thought.
At the East Rand Institute of Metabolic Medicine (ERIMM), women receive evidence-based, personalised care for conditions including diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis and other metabolic health concerns.
Happy Women’s Month from Dr Angela Murphy and the ERIMM team.
Dr Angela Murphy is a Specialist Physician with a special interest in endocrinology, diabetes, obesity and thyroid disorders, consulting at ERIMM, Sunward Park Medical Centre, Boksburg.
World Obesity Day
World Obesity Day was established in 2015 as an annual campaign with the goal of stimulating and supporting practical actions that will help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reverse the global obesity crisis.
Each year we run a campaign based on a specific theme. Although World Obesity Day is a point in time, our work continues throughout the year – recognising that different organisations and parts of the world focus their efforts at differing times.
We aim to increase awareness, encourage advocacy, improve policies, and share experiences. Our campaign reached over six million people in 2016, another eight million in 2017, and over ten million in 2018. In 2019, World Obesity Day was marked for the last time on October 11, and the new World Obesity Day date of March 4 began in 2020. In 2021, we reached over six billion people and with your help, we can continue to grow this year on year.
