Dr Angela Murphy graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1993. In 2000 she qualified as a Specialist Physician and joined the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, Johannesburg. She also saw patients in the Endocrinology Practice at the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre. In 2004 she moved her private practice to Life Springs Parklands and in 2008 to Netcare Sunward Park in Boksburg where she consults from the Sunward Park Medical Centre. At that stage she joined surgeon, Dr Francois Schutte, in the Sunward Centre for Bariatric Excellence.

A Specialist Physician, Dr Murphy practices exclusively in the field of endocrinology, with the Diabetes Clinic and Obesity Clinic being her two main areas of focus.  She has an interest in thyroid disease, particularly hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), osteoporosis and sleep apnoea.

Dr Murphy is committed to treatments aimed at not only reducing risk of complications but also improving quality of life.  In 2005 managing diabetes became more personal when Dr Murphy’s daughter (then 2 years old) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.   Dr Murphy is considered a Key Opinion Leader in diabetes and obesity and is extensively involved in education and training in these fields.  She is knowledgeable and experienced with all new treatments available and shares this in articles for Diabetes Focus Magazine as well as organizing Patient Information Events.

Dr Murphy is a member of SEMDSA and NOFSA.
