Sunette Swart has been a private practice dietitian in Boksburg and Kempton Park, Gauteng, since 1995. Her research focuses on diabetes and obesity. She graduated in 1989 and has two sons, ages 18 and 20, from her marriage of 28 years.

She earned a BSc in Dietetics from North-West University in 1992 and a BSc Hons in Dietetics in 1999 (from Potchefstroom). She is in the final year of her BSc Masters in Dietetics at the University of the Free State, where she is writing a thesis on weight regain after bariatric surgery, either Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy, in South Africa.

She is a member of a research team and takes part in international clinical trials for obesity.

She has been a member of the multidisciplinary team at Netcare Sunward Park Bariatric Centre of Excellence since 2006, led by bariatric surgeon Dr FN Schutte.

Since 2010, she has worked as a consulting dietician at the Sunward Park CDE clinic, which is led by specialist physician Dr A Murphy and is a member of The Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology (CDE).

Sunette takes a holistic approach to her practice, and her philosophy is to provide patients with the knowledge and skills they need to live a healthy lifestyle. The scale is not the most important factor to look at!! She believes that eating a low glycaemic index diet combined with Mediterranean diet principles (and DNA analysis) with exercise leads to a healthy lifestyle in general.

She loves sports like cycling, athletics, cricket and rugby and has done an Eastern’s cricket umpire course and has her Boks Smart Card as well.
